It’s a good sign that organizers for the 15th annual $20 Art Sale are planning for large crowds on Saturday. That so many people are willing to stand in line and brave the elements of December weather shows our city’s enthusiasm to support local artists who offer up quality pieces for often discounted prices.
Last year, hundreds piled into the event, which was held at Copper & Kings Distillery in Butchertown — so many, in fact, that a long line snaked throughout the courtyard. It was a chilly day, but most put their heads down and huddled together as they inched toward the door. This year, organizers are setting up a 30-by-40-foot enclosed tent to help keep people warm, and Quills Coffee will set up a complimentary coffee bar to keep ’em cozy and alert.
More than 30 artists are participating in the $20 Art Sale, which will once again be held at Copper & Kings on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 6-9 p.m. Also known as “The Umpteenth Annual $20 Art Sale” or “The World’s Second Most Awesome Art Market,” the event has been held at numerous venues through the years and now seems to have found a proper home at the brandy distillery.
Organizers Mary Yates, Ron Jasin and Scott Shuffitt put in many hours to make the event possible. Artists included in the show are J. Cobb, Jeral Tidwell, Natasha Sud, Sarah Tidwell, Tiffany Embry, John King, Robby Davis, Ashley Brossart and many, many more.
