Will Russell is my spirit animal. As owner of the WHY Louisville stores, co-founder of the Lebowski Fest and the great and powerful Oz behind the new Funtown Mountain roadside attraction in Cave City, Ky., he’s a man with many plans. It’s like he’s got his own Fortune 500 company inside his head — he pitches ideas, researches the logistics, creates a marketing plan and follows through on everything.
It’s evident Russell loves his city, and his passion is quite contagious. Last Friday, when he hosted a crowd of about 100 at the grand opening of Funtown Mountain, he was as giddy and jovial as the children running around the park hitting each other with pool noodles.
Insider reported yesterday on Russell’s garage sale that runs today from 1-4 p.m. in the basement of 414 Baxter Ave., so if you want some of his energy and ideas to rub off on you, stop by and say hello.
But first, Russell took time from his back-and-forth trips to Cave City to answer some very important questions …
What’s the most surprising thing on your Bucket List?
To drive a Hoveround to the edge of the Grand Canyon and scream, “Hoveround!” and hear it echo infinitely. I actually don’t have a Bucket List. I do whatever I want whenever I want. You know, YOLO.
Spuds MacKenzie, Freddy Krueger and a cat hanging from a tree branch that read: “Oh shit!”
If you were mayor, to whom would you give the key to the city?
Everybody. This town belongs to everyone, and this town is the love of my life.
What are your preferred pizza toppings?
Jalapenos and cheese!
If you could be any age for a week, what would it be?
42 — it’s my special magic lucky number. I could never be in my 20s again. Good grief!
What famous person do people say you resemble the most?
Physically, Tom Green. Mentally, Walt Disney. Personally, Willy Wonka.
Who would you most like to be stuck with in an elevator?
Steven Tyler, obviously.
