There are secret shenanigans going on in Crestwood involving bourbon, beer and music, and word finally is starting to spread. In fact, they’re even extending an invitation to Louisvillians willing to make the 20-mile commute.
The shenanigans first began when Yew Dell Botanical Gardens partnered with their neighbors at the Kentucky Artisan Distillery, home of Jefferson’s Bourbon, for a concert series called Bourbon & Botanicals, which is held each Thursday night throughout the summer.
A third neighbor, 3rd Turn Oldham Gardens, decided to bring beer and food to the party, so now it’s official, and the next Bourbon & Botanicals will be held Thursday, June 20, featuring the throwback stylings of Louisville band Billy Goat Strut Revue.
Each event runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the historic and serene Yew Dell Gardens, and admission is free for members or $9 for adults over 18 ($5 for seniors and children). Dogs also are welcome, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and/or chairs.
For those not familiar with Yew Dell, it’s an internationally recognized center of gardening, plants and education and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is home to hundreds of native and exotic plants and hosts a variety of educational experiences for novices to green thumbs.
The site includes a castle and sunken garden and often is rented for large events and weddings.
Meanwhile, Billy Goat Strut plays catchy New Orleans-inspired jazz and swing from the 1920s and beyond. The six-piece band often performs at bourbon-soaked events around town and also at Jimmy Can’t Dance, among other venues.
Chances are, with the bourbon and the beer flowing Thursday night, you’ll be dancing till dusk.
