CONNECT at Lake Nevin at Bernheim Forest is an annual event to “celebrate the intersection of art, science and nature.” This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 6:24-10:24 p.m. (that’s exactly two hours before and two hours after sunset).

Artists, food and beer vendors will set up around Lake Nevin. Three musical groups will perform, including Bonnie “Prince” Billy as the headliner.

Returning this year is CONNECTglow, a sculpture challenge in which participants create light sculptures without the use of a generator or AC power. Judges will award the top sculpture with $1,000 and $500 for the second prize.

Installation artist Craig Colorusso will once again present his Boxes, a solar powered sound sculpture. According to a news release, “Sun Boxes is comprised of 20 speakers, operated independently by the sun, that together create a B flat Major guitar chord.”

Each year Louisville Astrological Society sets up large telescopes for stargazing. Other participants include the Squallis Puppeteers and the Kentucky Science Center.

Artists interested in participating in CONNECT should visit the Bernheim website and complete the participation form. Cost is $5 for members and all children ages 2-12. Cost for non-members is $10. Children under 2 are free.
