Supplies Over Seas is a Louisville-based nonprofit that helps provide medical supplies to more than 105 countries in need, as well as cities right here in Kentucky. Since its founding in 1993, it has saved more than 1 million pounds of medial equipment and supplies from going into landfills and delivered them to those who need them the most.
To help raise funds for this important work, Supplies Over Seas hosts the annual Bourbon & Band Aids event each year that mixes bourbon tastings, swag, live music, Southern-focused food and much more. The third annual Bourbon & Band Aids will be held Thursday, June 20, at the Muhammad Ali Center, and attendees are encouraged to dress in a “Mad Men” theme.
Louisville has dozens of bourbon festivals, tasting parties and fundraisers each year, so it is sometimes difficult to tell one from another. Just from the description of this one, however, and its relatively lower admission fee of $75 — which goes directly to Supplies Over Seas — this one looks like it’ll be a good time.
How do we know this? Well, for one, you get 12 bourbon tastings from brands like Woodford Reserve, Old Forester, Cooper’s Craft, Four Roses, Blanton’s, Wilderness Trail, Maker’s Mark, Jefferson’s Reserve and Lux Row Distillers.
Secondly, it’s sponsored by Brown-Forman, which is rolling out its delicious and premium Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select for the occasion as well.
In fact, the entire sixth floor of the Ali Center will be transformed into the swanky Sinatra Select Lounge No. 7, which will be a throwback to the cocktail culture of the ’50s and ’60s. And for those few who don’t care for brown spirits, there will be Tito’s Vodka and Korbel champagne as well. Pinkies up, please.
Even the music will be Sinatra-themed, courtesy of DJ Ryan Coxx and guest emcee Scott Reynolds. And last but not least, you can expect swag, raffles and door prices all night long.
Bourbon & Band Aids runs from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, at the Ali Center. Tickets are $75 and include everything mentioned above, and there will be a cash bar in case you blow through your 12 tasting tickets.
If you need more prodding, just know that from proceeds of this event alone, Supplies Over Seas has created a Mother & Child Program and an Animal Welfare Program.
