Makes sense to make a big bourbon announcement on National Bourbon Day.
Bourbon & Beyond, the new music and bourbon festival that’ll be held in September, has just released its official lineup of chef and bourbon distillery partners, and, as you might expect, it’s a crème de la crème of both.
National and local chefs include Tom Colicchio, Carla Hall, Edward Lee, Chris Cosentino, Amanda Freitag, Jose Salazar, Cosmo Goss and Erling Wu-Bower, Kevin Ashworth, Anthony Lamas and Anthony Falco. And local restaurants getting in on the game range from Doc Crow’s and Gospel Bird to Seviche and The Manhattan Exchange.
There will be several breakout parties and workshops featuring the celebrity chefs, and a ticket into Bourbon & Beyond allows you access into any and all events.
Highlights of these include a Big Easy Crawfish Boil with Seviche chef Lamas; a Southern Soul BBQ with chefs Kevin Ashworth and Stacie Stewart of 610 Magnolia and Milkwood; several live cooking demos; and a discussion titled “The Wonder Women of Whiskey” led by local author and bourbon expert Susan Reigler.
“I can’t wait to show the world how we do bourbon in Louisville,” said chef Lee in the press release. “It is not just a libation, it’s a lifestyle. This is an idea that Bourbon & Beyond and I believe wholeheartedly, and the culinary elements will bring in a whole new level of quality that we haven’t seen before at a festival.”
Speaking of bourbon, most major distilleries are participating, and the list includes Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace, Angel’s Envy, Barton 1792, Jim Beam, Bulleit, Boone County Distilling Co., Four Roses, Maker’s Mark, MB Roland Distillery, Michter’s, New Riff, Old Forester, Woodford Reserve, Kentucky Peerless, Rabbit Hole, Smooth Ambler and Limestone Branch Distillery.
Several of the above master distillers and ambassadors will be on hand to host panel discussions, tastings and more.
“Bourbon & Beyond is bringing an entirely new generation of whiskey lovers to the birthplace of bourbon,” said Buffalo Trace master distiller Harlen Wheatley in the release. “We’re looking forward to celebrating with the entire bourbon community behind this exciting new endeavor.”
The festival will feature a Big Bourbon Bar, quite possibly the city’s longest, where most of the drinks and tastings will be served, and there will be pop-up speakeasies held throughout the two days as well.
Headlining Bourbon & Beyond are Stevie Nicks, Eddie Vedder, Steve Miller Band, Band of Horses, Trombone Shorty, Gary Clark Jr. and many, many more. The festival runs Sept. 23-24 at Champions Park, and tickets are still available.
