While the 11th annual Buy Local Fair at the Water Tower got off to a great start on Sunday, May 19, high winds and rain moved in, causing organizers to shut it down about halfway through. Not only did auction items not get bid on, but vendors and attendees both felt a bit let down by Mother Nature.
So the Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA), which hosts the annual event, did what they do best and planned for a “Part 2,” reaching out to partners and allies. Now, the Buy Local Fair Part 2 will take over the indoor areas of Louisville Slugger Field on Saturday, June 8, held purposely right before the Louisville City FC game.
Jennifer Rubenstein, director of LIBA, explains why.
“We were already talking to Louisville City FC about a possible LIBA night, and after the Buy Local Fair was rained out, we got in touch to see if we could have our auction items out for game-goers to visit. Then we thought, maybe we can bring a few friends,” she says. “In exchange for us selling tickets at the special rate of $15, they have given us the indoor space we need to showcase the vendors who can make the ‘Part 2’ date.”
Rubenstein tells Insider the event will feature more than 30 vendors, including everyone from Amish Hills Furniture to 5-0-Lou and SonaBLAST records. You can also expect ballpark food and drinks from CenterPlate, including Falls City Beer.
Attendees also will be able to bid on the numerous silent auction items, which range from gift cards to gift baskets from LIBA members, at the event or online. The auction will end at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Buy Local Fair Part 2 will run from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, at Slugger Field, 401 E. Main St. It is free and family-friendly, and the Louisville City FC game against the Loudoun United FC team starts at 7.
