Nothing can help warm those frigid winter blues faster than thoughts of boating, camping, sunbathing and frolicking in a lake with a water-skiing squirrel. Huh? That’s nuts.
Our initial response exactly.
But Twiggy, the water-skiing squirrel, will be making an appearance at the 61st annual Progressive Insurance Louisville Boat, RV & Sportshow, held later this month, Jan. 24-28, at the Kentucky Expo Center.
The story of Twiggy goes all the way back to 1978, according to his (or her?) website, when Chuck and Lou Ann Best rescued a baby squirrel that was blown out of its nest by a hurricane. Twiggy became a part of the family, and later that year, Chuck bought his daughter Lalainia a remote-controlled boat for her birthday.
The rest, they say, is history. And although Twiggy is now in his/her fourth edition, he/she brings joy to all who witness the real live skiing squirrel.
Twiggy will be performing at least twice each day during the Boat, RV & Sportshow’s run, and you can find the full schedule online.
As always, the show will feature more than 400,000 square feet of the newest models of boats, RVs, outdoor accessories and much, much more. From Amish-made cabins to five-beddrom houseboats, it’s all on display and available to purchase — especially if you’re the lucky winner of the recent Powerball.
And for the kids, there’s the catch-and-release trout pond, wakeboard demonstrations, a meet-and-greet with Bassmaster pro Timmy Horton and wakeboard expert Chad Sharpe, and many other interactive learning experiences.
You also never know what you’ll come home with after attending. One year we ended up with a state-of-the-art, stainless steel beer koozie, and the next year a T-shirt that said “Boats, Bourbon, Bikinis.”
The Progressive Insurance Louisville Boat, RV & Sportshow runs Jan. 24-28. Tickets are $12 for those 13 and up. Discounted tickets are now available online for $10 through Jan. 23.
