Cheers for Local Beers is bringing together dogs and beer.

Earlier this month, three local-ish breweries decided to start a club of sorts to showcase their support of one another, their passion for the craft and, of course, their love of beer. Thus, Cheers for Local Beers was born into this world, and the first event is a Halloween-themed dog costume contest on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at O’Shea’s in the Highlands.

12132391_893378787422485_7311152170198011789_oOrganized by the owners of Goodwood Brewing, Flat 12 Bierwerks and West Sixth Brewing, Cheers for Local Beers wants to connect with like-minded individuals who share a love of craft beer, and each month’s event will have a different theme and be hosted by various venues around town.

The costume contest will be judged by each brewery’s representatives, and 10 percent of the evening’s sales will be donated to Derby City Dog Rescue. Prizes will be awarded for best costume. The free event runs from 6-9 p.m. at O’Shea’s, 956 Baxter Ave.
