Many beer snobs actually prefer canned beer over bottled beer for several reasons, the biggest being light exposure. There’s no way sunlight can penetrate an aluminum can, thus protecting the pristine contents inside. Plus, cans are more practical and better for the environment.

Crosley Radio, the local maker of vintage-style record players and radios, is celebrating canned beer at its inaugural Candemonium Canned Beer Festival on Saturday at the ReSurfaced lot near NuLu. The organizers are teaming up with Against the Grain Brewery and West Sixth Brewing for the family-friendly summer bash.

“We have been wanting to put something like this together for a few years,” said Jason Menard, Crosley’s director of marketing, in a press release. “Candemonium celebrates our combined love of music, beer and the Louisville community.”

Along with the beer, attendees can expect food trucks, the Crosley Cruiser mobile record store, a children’s play area, local vendors and a raffling of five turntables that were customized by local artists Cricket Press, Matthew McDole, Kendall Regan, Suzanne Edds and Whitney Carpenter.

What makes the entire festival even more sweeter is all proceeds from raffles and beer will go to Girls Rock Louisville, which also is curating a playlist of our city’s best female musicians for the event.

It appears to be a win-win for all involved.

“At Against the Grain, we’re always down for a good time. We never pass up an opportunity to do just that,” said AtG’s media maven Katie Molck in the release. “Candemonium is a way for us to share and collaborate on all the things we like — music, Louisville art, local biz and, of course, BEER.”

Candemonium takes place from noon-6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, at ReSurfaced, 801 E. Liberty St. Admission is free. Don’t forget your koozies.
