Cult fandoms will never die, especially ones with annual festivals that feed the fascinations. This weekend, “The Big Lebowski,” one of Louisville’s most prized obsessions, will be lauded across town for the 14th annual Lebowski Fest.
As usual, the festival includes costumes, a screening of the film, a garden party and, of course, bowling. Special guest Jimmie Dale Gilmore — who appears as Smokey in the film — will perform some honky-tonk tunes to precede the screening on Friday, July 10.
The movie party begins at 8 p.m. on Friday at Executive Lawn, 911 Phillips Lane. Saturday’s events include more music as well as Lebowski-themed games at 4 p.m., also happening on the Lawn. Later in the evening, the party will move over to Executive Strike & Spare for bowling, as well as costume and trivia contests.
Ticket prices vary by event and are $10-$25 in advance and $15-$30 day of, or $50 for the complete package. Get your tickets here, or at the downtown WHY Louisville store at 806 E. Market St. — and while you’re there, don’t hesitate to stock up on knickknacks to embrace the Lebowski love all year ’round. For a complete schedule, click here.
