Decca’s Cellar Lounge is one of the city’s best-kept secrets: a bunker complete with a full bar, hip patrons and occasionally live music. Last year, chef Annie Pettry held a handful of pop-up events — called Beats & Eats — that paired her take on global street food with likeminded hip-hop tracks. On Thursday, Feb. 11, she’s bringing it back, and it’ll take on the theme of the Chinese New Year.
The entire series will have a “New Year’s Around the World” focus and take place on Thursday evenings throughout the year.
“We had a lot of fun with Beats & Eats and knew we wanted to bring it back in 2016,” says Pettry in a press release. “It gives us a chance to challenge ourselves, continue learning about new cuisines, and play around with dishes that we enjoy cooking and eating that are outside of the cuisine at Decca.”
Beats & Eats runs from 10:30 p.m.-1 a.m. and includes dishes in the $10 range, cocktail specials and music from various DJs. The five events are scheduled to take place during the actual New Year’s celebrations in each country.
Pettry says that while we celebrate the New Year typically with popping champagne and dropping a big ball in Times Square, other countries and cultures do things much differently. “We’re using that as our initial source of inspiration, and from there, I’m challenging the Decca team to get creative,” she adds.
