Breakfast fare is serious business in this town, and you can never have too many options when searching for weekend brunch destinations. Enter Eggs Over Baxter — from restaurant veterans Cortney and Jackson Nave, who operate Eggs Over Frankfort — which is slated to open this spring at Baxter Centre, 962 Baxter Ave.
The Naves have filed for a full liquor license for the Highlands location, which will be a new venture for them since Eggs Over Frankfort does not sell beer or liquor.
“We are pretty excited about the options this venue is going to give us,” said Jackson Nave. “People love their mimosas and bloody marys during brunch, and now we will be able to offer those.”
Jackson wouldn’t say exactly which space they were going to occupy in the Baxter Centre — which sits between Chase Bank and O’Shea’s — but it will more than double the capacity of their Frankfort Avenue restaurant. He did say the menu and overall feel would pretty much be the same, although they will tweak the names of some items to be more neighborhood-specific.
They are shooting for the end of April to open and are excited to offer some brunch options for that part of the Highlands. “I think there’s enough (business) for everyone,” Jackson said about nearby breakfast options like Highland Morning and North End Café. “They do what they do well, and I think we can offer our little spin on it, too.”
He also mentioned the possibility of using Eggs Over Baxter as an event space in the evenings, especially since they will have a liquor license.
Business at Eggs Over Frankfort, 2712 Frankfort Ave., has been steady since opening in June 2014, and Jackson said he and Cortney will be able to handle both locations. Insider’s Kevin Gibson deemed it a worthy breakfast option for the Crescent Hill/Clifton area back in July, and raved about their cheese grits.
