While it is, indeed, too early to be blasting Christmas music at this time (we’re talking to you, Lite 106.9), it’s never too soon to get into the spirit of giving. With this in mind, the folks over at Jeffersonville’s Flat 12 Bierwerks have decided to collect donations and give a portion of their proceeds to three local charities leading up to their pre-Thanksgiving bash, FriendsGiving on Wednesday, Nov. 25.

“Being a part of the community and giving back to local charities is part of the Flat 12 mission statement,” CEO Sean O’Connor tells Insider. “FriendsGiving is a month-long drive supporting a diverse group of local charities with shared values.”

From Nov. 11-15, the charity of choice is Derby City Dog Rescue, which gives unwanted dogs a second chance by providing foster homes until they find a forever home. Founded in 2011, the nonprofit has rescued more than 2,000 dogs.

The following week, from Nov. 18-22, proceeds will go to the Louisville Youth Group, which creates a safe and supportive environment for LGBTQ youth and their allies. Started in 1990, the nonprofit reaches more than 200 kids — ages 14-20 — a year.

"Planes, Trains and Automobiles" will be screened at FriendsGiving.

And the final week, from Nov. 25-30, Flat 12 will be accepting donations for the Dare to Care Food Bank, which distributes food locally to those in need. It was created in 1969 in response to the death of Bobby Ellis, a 9-year-old child who died of malnutrition in his Louisville home. The nonprofit and its partners have provided more than 16 million meals though its food pantries, shelters and emergency kitchens.

The brewery invites its friends, family and customers to celebrate all three charities at its FriendsGiving celebration on Wednesday, Nov. 25. Special seasonal beers will be tapped — including Lacto-Matic Milk Stout, Flat Jack Pumpkin Ale, Snickerdoodle Blonde and more — and there will be free frozen turkey dinners for everyone who raises a toast. In a nod to a Thanksgiving classic, the film “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” will also be screened.

The free party runs from 3-10 p.m. Flat 12 is located at 130 W. Riverside Drive in Jeffersonville.
