Not a lot gets accomplished while most people drink, other than grand plans for vacations that’ll never happen or silly inventions that’ll never see the light of day (PajamaJeans? … oh, wait, never mind).

But what if an event paired beer drinking with charity fundraising? You could still sit back, relax and drink a few beers — but you’d be helping an organization at the same time! Sure, it’s not rocket science, but I think it’s one of  the better ideas I’ve heard on the topic.

Drink beer for a great cause.

The folks at Gordon Biersch are partnering with the Parkinson’s Support Center of Kentuckiana to host Pints for Parkinson’s on Tuesday, Feb. 24. From 6-9 p.m., they’d like you to stop in and order a $3 pint of either their new award-winning smoked beer Rauchbier or their popular lager Marzen. All proceeds benefit PCK.

There also will be a silent auction with coveted items like tickets to the PGA Senior Championship, bottles of Jim Beam Reserve, bourbon barrel heads, a hotel/dinner package and — beer lovers, listen up — a chance to win a bottomless growler.

Gordon Biersch’s general manager, Jason Smith, says he plans on making Pints for Parkinson’s an annual event and has a vested interest in the charity.

“I’m excited to help raise awareness to a great local organization that focuses on the education and well-being of not only patients, but loved ones as well,” he says. “Having recently been diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s, they are a great resource of information, community and support for a disease that doesn’t always have an explanation.”

There will be live music as well from the Whiskey Bent Valley Boys. Gordon Biersch is located at 400 S. Fourth St., aka Fourth Street Live.
