I was blown to Louisville from New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

I lived in NOLA for 8 years before the storm and 10 months after the storm and reluctantly relocated to Louisville when job options dried up.

I also lived in NYC for five years in my twenties.

So watching the recovery efforts post-Hurricane Sandy has stirred a bunch of stuff in me – to put it in the nicest possible way – to say the least.

Good thing I swore off Hurricanes – the storm and the drink –  a long time ago. Especially with the election coming up.

But just because they’re too much for me doesn’t mean they’ll be too much for you.

Hurricanes are sweet and fruity, and you’ll have no clue how tanked you’re getting until… well, they don’t call them hurricanes for nothing, right?

From the Hurricanes for the Hurricane Facebook page:

Starting November the 6th, Louisville is gonna put its money where its mouth is, by drinking hurricanes to benefit folks in NYC. We’re gonna help NYC bar and restaurant staff one drink at a time. Several establishments throughout the Louisville area will be serving their versions of the Hurricane cocktail. Starting on Tuesday Nov. 6 and continuing until we’ve raised enough money to help those in the most dire need.

“Hurricanes for the Hurricane” will take place:

Obviously, enjoy your hurricanes responsibly, but if you’re going to drink, why not have your beer money go toward a good cause? Just take it easy on the hurricanes.

Sandy is enough to clean up after.
