Going to a Mardi Gras party could be one of the best times a person can have. With all the beads, booze and boogying, could a Fat Tuesday trip down Bourbon Street get any better? Well, for animal lovers who also can’t make it to New Orleans it can. The annual “Mardi Paws” event, open to all people and their (leashed) pets, takes place Sunday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Almost Home Boarding and Training, 1219 Dorsey Lane.

This pet-centered party will feature Cajun and Southern-style dishes, vegetarian offerings, homemade desserts and, of course, a King Cake. There will be games, silent auctions, contests for “best pet trick” and “best costume,” tarot card readings, a photographer to snap a few shots of you and your pet, and the highly anticipated crowning of the pet king and queen.

Admission is free, but donations are encouraged, as 100 percent of the proceeds go to The Arrow Fund, which rescues and rehabilitates severely abused pets. For more information or to nominate your pet to be the king or queen, email [email protected]
