Rocky’s Pizza & Panini, the fast-casual version of Rocky’s Sub Pub, will open this coming Monday, Aug. 13, at 3032 Bardstown Road in the Gardiner Lane Shopping Center.

According to marketing director Kelly Leonardo, the restaurant will offer a variety of pizzas, grilled panini, made-to-order salads, soups, calzones and side items.

“We’ll have almost all the specialty pizzas we serve at the Sub Pub in Jeffersonville, but here we’re 8-inch and 10-inch versions,” Leonardo said. “If you want to eat a little lighter, we’ll have half panini combos with soup or salad ($6.49-$8.99), or whole combos ($7.49 to $9.99). You can even do half or whole salads ($3.99 to $9.99.)”

This marks the second time a Rocky’s will open in Louisville. A full-service Rocky’s Italian Grill was open two years on Westport Road, near Springhurst, but closed in 2008.

The new, self-service spot is a spinoff of the original Rocky’s Sub Pub, which opened in 1977 Jeffersonville, across from Jeff Boat on Market Street. For those who don’t remember it, the place was cozy, low-rent, family centered and just great.

The newish version, which opened more than a decade ago on Jeffersonville’s riverfront, is a massive, modern restaurant seating more than 500.

By comparison, Rocky’s Pizza & Panini will seat 100 and occupies the former National City Bank space in the center.

“We’ve always wanted to do something with Rocky’s but in a small setting,” Leonardo said. A couple doors down is its sister restaurant, Buckhead Mountain Grill. “We’re really excited to see how this works out.”

Rocky’s reputation for a great craft beer selection will carry over to the fast-casual spot with eight draft selections and 10 bottled options. Customers can get growlers filled there, too. (Click here to see the lineup.) About a half dozen wines are available as well.

Pizza delivery won’t be available until October or November, but Leonardo said curbside service will be available for carryout. “Just drive up and we’ll bring it to you,” she said.

For now, operating hours are Monday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
