Despite a nonstop soak from the cold Kentucky rain and the squishy, slippery mud pools that eventually took over Champions Park by the time the sun went down, the first day of the second annual Bourbon & Beyond went off without a hitch.

Unfortunately, city officials were forced to close the park due to the unsafe conditions following the day of rain, meaning organizers had to cancel the second day.

But Insider managed to get some great shots of all the festivities — the bourbon, the music, the people — we were able to crash on Saturday.

We encountered thousands of smiling faces, despite the conditions, and people who were generally excited to learn more about the brown spirit that drew them to Louisville on the first day of fall.

There were lines for each Bourbon+ and Mash Stage workshop, lines for local restaurants, lines for the bourbon and hundreds lined up in front of both stages to hear from the day’s top performers, including Sheryl Crow, David Byrne, Lenny Kravitz and John Mayer.
