When the Old Forester Distillery opened its doors on Louisville’s Whiskey Row in June, many people wondered if a cocktail bar would soon follow. After all, with its prime location among the bars and restaurants on Main Street and proximity to the Yum! Center, it was a no-brainer.
And when we visited a few months ago for the release of this year’s Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, we couldn’t help but notice a sign on an inconspicuous room near the lobby that read “George’s Bar.”
Turns out a tour companion bar was always in the works, and now George’s Bar is slated to open Wednesday, Nov. 7. It’ll feature nine seasonal cocktails created by Master Taster Jackie Zykan — one for each expression and two standard ones that’ll remain, which include the Perfect Old Fashioned and a Milk Punch.
Mocktail options also will be available.
Zykan tells Insider the goal of the cocktail menu is to reflect the brand’s approachability, and it’ll feature a wide range of styles and mixes, including a Bohemian Cocktail made with Old Forester 100, a highball made with the 1920 Whiskey Row Series and a Bourbon Alexander made with Old Forester Statesman.
She also hinted of a soon-to-be-released Old Forester Rye that’ll also be featured in a cocktail, say, around February. (You heard it here first!)
George’s Bar will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and during special events, like cocktail classes and during big games/events at the Yum! Center. Anyone 21 and over is welcome inside the bar, regardless if you went on a distillery tour or not. And there is a two-drink limit. All cocktails and flights are $12.
