We’re a little more than halfway through the annual Austin music and film festival South By Southwest (SXSW), and already Louisville film producer and entrepreneur Gill Holland has participated in a panel discussion and taken home an award for his executive-produced project “Most Beautiful Island.”

On Tuesday, Ana Asensio’s “Most Beautiful Island” won the top Grand Jury Prize for best narrative feature film. Shot on super 16mm, the film follows the struggles of Luciana, an undocumented immigrant who tries to make a life for herself in New York City.

Director Asensio stars in the film, and she also wrote the screenplay.

Holland tells Insider he was thrilled the film took home the award.

“Having seen Ana Asensio work so hard for about six years on putting this truly independent film together, I am so proud of her work and grateful for the recognition the film has just received,” he says.

Gill Holland sat on a panel at SXSW.

He hopes to bring the film home to Louisville soon and has entered it in the Louisville Film Society‘s annual Flyover Film Festival, which takes place in July. And, he says, there are a few pieces of Louisville in the film.

“Local music fans will be happily surprised to hear some music from local acts Nerves Junior and Lucky Pineapple in a couple of scenes, too,” says Holland.

Holland also sat on a panel discussion on production and independent film financing.
