‘PotterPalooza’ takes over the library on Saturday.

Avid readers around the world are gearing up for the birthday of their favorite fictional wizard. This weekend, the Louisville Free Public Library is calling for “Harry Potter” fans to head downtown with their robes, wands and butterbeer.

On Saturday afternoon at the Main Library, LFPL will hold “PotterPalooza” to celebrate the 37th birthday of Harry Potter, the main character of J.K. Rowling’s renowned fantasy series. The “Harry Potter” book and movie series details the life of a young wizard studying magic and battling evil at a school called Hogwarts.

“PotterPalooza” is geared toward Harry Potter fans of all ages. Younger children can attend different activities, like getting sorted into one of the Hogwarts houses, from 2-5 p.m., and activities for older kids and adults will go on from 6-8 p.m.

In addition to the sorting ceremony, the event will feature other activities like exploring a muggle museum, making a wand, playing Quidditch and trying some of the wizarding world delicacies like butterbeer.

LFPL is encouraging all attendees to dress as a witch or wizard for the event.

“PotterPalooza” will be on Saturday, July 29, from 2-8 p.m. The event will be held at the Main Library, 301 York St., and admission is free.
