It’s a magical time of year, that one week when you can get five-buck burgers all over town. That’s right, Louisville Burger Week returns for a third turn this coming week, July 22-28.
In all, 25 businesses will serve burgers created especially for the weeklong celebration of beef on a bun, from gourmet creations to off-menu specialties to the basics. The point, of course, is to encourage people to embrace local food and culture and to try new restaurants — at a discounted rate, no less.
Burger enthusiasts can get a passport at one of the participating restaurants, and if they get four stamps — for eating burgers at four different spots — they will be entered into a prize drawing to win a grill and enough hamburger to feed a small army.
In addition, participants can vote on their favorite burgers, and the winning burger will be presented with the Louisville Slugger Best Burger of Burger Week award.
Examples of the burgers being served around town include Corner Restaurant & Bar’s Corner Steak & Cheeseburger and the fusion burger from Lil Wagner’s at Derby City Gaming.
The Corner Steak & Cheeseburger is a beef patty topped with chopped roast beef, sautéed peppers, caramelized onions, provolone and Swiss cheese, plus house-made ranch dressing and shredded lettuce, all served on a brioche bun.
The Lil Wagner’s entry, meanwhile, is a burger on a bed of spring mixed greens with sliced tomato and house-made, Asian-inspired bourbon peach BBQ sauce. It is then topped with creamy Monterey jack cheese, caramelized balsamic red peppers and onions, crispy wonton strips and grilled Georgia peaches, served on a toasted brioche bun.
The other participating restaurants this year are Butchertown Social, Brooke and Billy’s, Bubba’s 33, Drake’s Paddock, Drake’s St. Matthews, Dundee Tavern, Fork and Barrel, Goodwood Brewing, Griffs, Guy Fieri’s Smokehouse, HopCat, The Hub, JB’s Pub, Khalil’s on Dixie, Mark’s Feed Store (all locations), Molly Malone’s St. Matthews, Napa River Grill, O’Shea’s Irish Pub (Highlands), Porch Kitchen & Bar, the Sports & Social Club, Stout Burgers & Beers, Sullivan’s Tap House and Macaron Bar, which will serve a dessert burger.
Louisville Burger Week is sponsored by the Kentucky Beef Council.
