Louisville City FC, the recently announced USL (United Soccer League) team, has announced the hiring of Djorn R. Buchholz as president.

Buchholz-Pin2Buchholz has a 13-year history of professional soccer management and fan engagement, serving in management roles with USL, NASL (North American Soccer League) and MLS (Major League Soccer) clubs from Indiana, Minnesota, Texas and Kansas. He is charged with continuing the championship tradition of the franchise — which is moving here from Orlando, Fla. — executing a highly community-engaged program, and growing the local fan base. He begins Aug. 4.

“I’m extremely excited to arrive in Louisville and start this new role,” Buchholz said in a press release. “I want to thank the Louisville City FC ownership group for recognizing the soccer possibilities in Louisville and giving me this opportunity. As a team, and as a front office, we will be dedicated to making Louisville City FC an integral part of the community and to continuing the winning tradition of this franchise.”

Buchholz has spent the last year-plus with 2013 MLS Champions Sporting Kansas City as director of fan experience. His role involved management of all aspects of the fan experience for this MLS Championship club that is widely known for having the best fan experience in the league.

Buchholz holds a bachelors of arts with a double major in marketing and international studies from Hastings College.

Louisville City FC will begin play in Louisville in March 2015, with Slugger Field serving as its home pitch.
