Much like a dog, beer is simple, beer is loyal and beer is always happy to see you when you get home from work. Beer and dogs just go together.
So it’s no wonder many of Louisville’s breweries often host dog events and benefits and allow the superior pet to roam their patios and — if there’s no kitchen — their tap rooms.
On Saturday, Aug. 18, Monnik Beer Co. is hosting a Canine Block Party and encouraging patrons to bring along their four-legged companions all in the name of fun, beer and prizes.
There’s even a legit dog show planned, with categories like Waggiest Tail, Best Trick, Dog Most Like Its Owner, Best Outfit, Most Chillest, Fluffiest, Coolest Hair-Do, and People’s Choice Award.
All proceeds will benefit the Kentucky Humane Society.
Monnik co-owner Brian Holton tells Insider the idea for the event began when they were brainstorming ideas on doing something fun for the Schnitzelburg neighborhood.
“Our community is full of dog lovers, so a dog-centric event was a no-brainer,” he says. “We linked up with some cool local businesses — Dairy Dell, Pet Wants, Zoom N Groom, Feeders Supply, the fire department, as well as the Humane Society.”
For you and your pup, there will be treats, a photo booth by Mag Booth, ice cream, beer, probably ice cream in beer, kiddie pools and other water shenanigans and much more.
If all goes well, Holton says, this will be an annual event.
Monnik’s Canine Block Party will run from 2 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18. It’s free and open to all, and dog show entries are $1 each.
The brewery has 15 of its own beers on tap and another five guest taps, and all will be flowing for the occasion. Monnik is located at 1036 E. Burnett Ave.
