Fresh off our recent post that Joan Shelley’s Over and Even was named in L.A. Times’ 10 Best Pop Music Albums list, we got wind of another local music group making it onto a national Top 10 list. Houndmouth ranked No. 6 in NPR’s “World Cafe” host David Dye’s Top 10 Albums of 2015.

Sandwiched between Sufjan Stevens’ Carrie & Lowell (No. 5) and The Arcs’ Yours, Dreamily (No. 7), Houndmouth’s Little Neon Limelight gets a little limelight lovin’ from Dye, who has hosted the nationally syndicated radio show for nearly 25 years.

houndmouthIn his short description, he writes:

“What gets me with Houndmouth is how well this band looks back in time musically. But ‘Little Neon Limelight’ isn’t just about a retro sound; it’s also about songs, two amazing lead voices and equally impressive harmonies.”

Little Neon Limelight was released in March as the band’s second LP. Since then, they’ve been on tour, making stops at music festivals and late-night shows along the way. Lead vocalist Katie Toupin co-owns Bermuda Highway, a music-themed clothing store in NuLu.
