It’s an event that taps into all five senses — Louisville’s beloved florist Nanz & Kraft is partnering up with Four Roses Bourbon once again for the 12th annual Four Roses Flower Hour on Friday, Feb. 8, which helps raise funds for the American Heart Association.

You’ve got the sight and smell of all the lovely blooming flowers in the St. Matthews shop, the taste of delicious Kentucky bourbon, the sound of jazz by Swing Theory and the touch of whatever you put your hands on — more bourbon perhaps, or possibly a plate full of cheese and chocolate, or maybe an arrangement of a dozen roses.

The happy hour event is a favorite among the florist’s patrons — or anyone who likes to sip bourbon as they do their Valentine’s Day shopping — and is a laid-back gathering that raises money for a good cause. In fact, last year, the Flower Hour donated nearly $5,000 to the American Heart Association.

“Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and 5 killers, respectively, of all Americans. Locally, these diseases claim more than 2,600 lives each year,” said Karrie Harper, American Heart Association Go Red for Women director, in a news release. “It means a great deal to us to partner with Four Roses and Nanz & Kraft to raise awareness about heart health and much-needed funds for our community during the Flower Hour event.”

Each year, Nanz & Kraft sells a specially prepared flower arrangement called “Go Red for Women” and donates $10 of each sale of these to the organization as well. The arrangement features four red roses in a decorative white cube with a Go Red pin.

You can get the flower arrangement and pin for $39.95, or add a bottle of Four Roses bourbon to the mix for a total of $74.95.

The Four Roses Flower Hour runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8. Admission is a suggested $10 cash donation, and VIP tickets are available for $20 and include a gift bag from Four Roses, Nanz & Kraft, American Heart Association, Heine Bros., and Cellar Door Chocolates.

Four Roses Master Distiller Brent Elliott will be there to socialize, shake hands and sign things, and attendees are encouraged to wear red. Nanz & Kraft is located at 141 Breckenridge Lane.
