Detail of “Cannonball” by William Wegman, featured in the Carnegie Center exhibit

It’s not every day you can go to an art museum and be treated not only to one-of-a-kind local and regional art but also be handed a drink, hear live music and get thrown into a puppy pit.

At the Carnegie Center for Art and History‘s fundraising event Night at the Carnegie, you get all that and more on Friday, Jan. 11. And best of all, admission is only $15.

The pet-themed night features music curated by Jecorey “1200” Arthur that includes singer-songwriter Jacqui Blue and music by DJ Kym Williams.

“Kentuggy Pug” by Gemma Correll

The puppy pit will be supplied by the New Albany Floyd County Animal Control & Shelter, there also will be pet portraits by Kelly Toon, and pug illustrator Gemma Correll will be on hand as well.

The pet theme is in conjunction with Carnegie’s current exhibit, “Biophilia Life; or, My Best Friend has Four Legs and a Tail,” which Insider wrote about last month. The exhibit explores the connection between humans and domesticated animals.

Curator Daniel Pfalzgraf told Insider that the exhibit is aimed at both sophisticated art viewers and people who just want to see pictures of cats. He suggested the subtitle of the exhibit should be: “Come for the puppies, stay for the brushstrokes.”

Last but not least, your ticket includes a drink by mobile bartenders Naked by Sunday, and if you headed into downtown New Albany afterward, your ticket also gets you 10 percent off dinner at Longboard’s Taco & Tiki, Exchange Pub + Kitchen, or Brooklyn and the Butcher.

Night at the Carnegie runs 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11. Tickets are $15. The Carnegie Center is located at 201 E. Spring St. in New Albany.
