As most events and festivals continue year after year, they tend to add new features and grow in size and scope. Onward and upward, they say. And this is exactly how NuLu Fest has proceeded.

Once a mere block party, NuLu Fest is now a full-blown, all-day neighborhood festival that features local beer, bourbon, food trucks, NuLu fare, live music, arts and crafts, and much more. This year’s ninth annual celebration will take place Saturday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. throughout the 600, 700 and 800 blocks of East Market Street.

This year, fest organizers are celebrating 15 years of sonaBLAST! Records, a local record label started by the unofficial NuLu mayor Gill Holland. sonaBLAST! helped book the stage talent for NuLu Fest, which includes Ben Sollee, The Pass, Quiet Hollers and more (full schedule below).

Also, the main stage will be moved to the Green Building parking lot.

“We’re thrilled to continue our support of the festival while also celebrating an amazing 15 years of independent music, 12 of those here in Louisville,” said Holland in a press release. “This festival really shows off the growth of NuLu over the last nine years, and that’s a direct result of Louisville and NuLu’’s commitment to local, independent businesses.”

Other new highlights of the free festival include a sponsorship by Brown-Forman’s Cooper’s Craft bourbon and bourbon slushies made with Ale-8-One. Yum!
