It’s damn near impossible to get your hands on one bottle of Pappy Van Winkle, let alone all five in this year’s allotment: Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year; Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year; Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 15 Year; Pappy 20 Year; and Pappy 23 Year.
However, one local charity raffle, brought to you by Cox’s Smokers Outlet & Spirit Shoppes and Louisville Public Media (LPM), will award a very lucky winner all five bottles. The $10 raffle tickets are being sold at Cox’s many locations and at Evergreen Liquors through Thursday, Dec. 21.
And all proceeds go to LPM’s Instrumental Partners Program, which helps place instruments in area schools. Since its start in 2003, the program has given more than 1,000 instruments to Jefferson County Public Schools, and it is now expanding its reach to surrounding counties and Southern Indiana.
The winning ticket will be drawn by DJ Laura Shine during WFPK’s “Live Lunch” at noon on Friday, Dec. 22.
We assume that winner will then promptly hear from friends she never knew she had.
The retail value of all five bottles falls around $600, but the black-market value (we kindly remind you that it’s illegal to sell alcohol privately) would be upwards of $5,000.
Also, just a reminder — the Kroger Pappy raffle ends Friday, Dec. 8. Winners will be drawn Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Wish us luck.
