Patrick Roney, chef at Harvest for roughly the last two years, announced on social media Thursday night that he was stepping down.
“I am taking a step back from the restaurant industry to spend time with my 3-year-old daughter, Hazel,” he wrote on his Facebook page just before midnight. “I miss my wife, too.”
Prior to joining Harvest, Roney spent three-plus years as chef de cuisine at The Oakroom. Before moving to Louisville, Roney had spent two decades as a chef all over the U.S., including a stint as a private chef on a yacht in Florida.
The Maryland native became executive chef at Harvest in November 2015, when Coby Ming left for another restaurant. Ironically, Harvest was the first restaurant he went to when he first came to Louisville.
“Harvest’s food philosophy was what drew me to move to Louisville,” Roney told Insider Louisville in 2015, citing organic, local sourcing of ingredients. “That similar philosophy was what had me jazzed about eating at Harvest. And when the opportunity to become a part of that came along, it was a no-brainer. It was like, ‘I want that job.’ ”
In his late-night announcement, Roney called out his co-workers and the experience in his parting words, saying:,“Harvest has been my greatest culinary accomplishment and [Harvest owner] Ivor Chodkowski a mentor who I will always be connected [to]. We have built the best team I’ve ever been associated with.”
It wasn’t specified if the resignation will be effective immediately or if a replacement still needs to be found. Inquiries to both Roney and Chodkowski weren’t answered as of this writing.
Roney, however, made it clear that he isn’t done cooking – not yet.
“Cooking has been my career for 25 years and will always be my passion,” he wrote. “I look forward to family time and perspective on this restaurant industry. Thank you to all that have supported me through the years.”
In parting, he added, “I will be back.”
