Six years. Thirty-six bands. One stage.

Poorcastle, the self-described “festival for the rest of us,” once again will take over the Apocalypse Brew Works parking lot this weekend, July 6-8, with three-dozen bands and musicians, plus food trucks, beers and more.

From Joann & The Dakota and Jack Holiday & The Westerners to Jacqui Blue and The Tunesmiths, the lineup is eclectic and diverse. There’s even Brother Wolves and Julie of the Wolves, as well as The Nightbyrds and the Bleak Birds of Hell. Is there a theme here?

The biggest catch of the event is the extremely low admission fee — $5 a day, or $10 for the entire weekend — and all proceeds go to local nonprofits like AMPED, Louisville Leopard Percussionists, MERF and WCHQ-FM. Last year, Poorcastle raised more than $11,000 for the charities.

“Year six, and we’re back with another amazing collection of original music,” said festival co-founder Shaina Wagner in a news release. “We’re looking forward to a weekend of great local artists and good vibes.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets, and pack a cooler with water and soda, although no glass containers or outside alcohol is permitted. And bonus points: The event is both kid- and dog-friendly.

Bands begin each day at 2 p.m. and end around 11 p.m. Apocalypse is located at 1612 Mellwood Ave. (And while you’re there, be sure to try the Watermelon Crack.)
