A new fitness studio is coming to Louisville this summer from the owner of CycleBar.

Located near the Trader Joe’s in St. Matthews, the 2,400-sq-foot Club Pilates will open on Aug. 10 and will offer full-body pilates-inspired classes incorporating energetic music and group workouts. Classes will be limited to 12, but single and doubles classes are also available.

As part of the grand opening, Club Pilates will offer 22 free demonstration classes Aug. 10-13, and an additional 14 per week Aug. 14 through Sept. 10.

Club Pilates is a franchise-based pilates studio out of Orange County, California. The studio will include 14 pilates reformers, which are specialized exercise machines designed to improve strength, flexibility, posture and balance.

“I like that a full class holds only 12 people because it makes for an intimate exercise experience where we can focus on control and form,” says Club Pilates owner Katie Ryser in a press release. “And those reformer machines? Well, they don’t let you cheat. In a Club Pilates class, you use spring-loaded resistance to push or pull your body weight through a variety of exercises to achieve a low-impact, full-body workout.”

No stranger to fitness, Ryser opened CycleBar, an indoor, franchise-based cycling studio, in November of 2016.

Pilates is a form of physical fitness that emphasizes flexibility, balance and controlled movements regardless of age, gender or fitness level. Ryser said Cub Pilates will offer a variation on the traditional pilates workout by incorporating music and energy into the classes. Each of the 12 studio reformers comes with its own station that includes TRX straps, a ballet barre, a Bosu ball, an EXO-chair, a springboard and trigger point roller balls.

“In most of our fitness routines, such as running, lifting or cycling, we overtrain our large muscle groups,” Ryser says. “Pilates focuses on the underutilized, opposing muscle groups to achieve greater stability, a stronger core and injury prevention. This is why I believe in the pilates method.”

Club Pilates is at 4600 Shelbyville Road, just a few doors down from the CycleBar location. Memberships at Club Pilates start at $79 for four classes per month, $139 for eight classes a month, and $169 for a monthly unlimited pass. Drop-in classes are $22. Club Pilates will start with 28 classes per week, but will increase to more than 60 classes per week. The first 50 members to sign up will get a 20 percent discount for their first year.

Club Pilates will also be offering a Comprehensive Teacher Training Workshop by a Club Pilates Master Trainer for those looking to become a pilates trainer. Instruction dates are Aug. 25-27, Sept. 8-10, Sept. 15-17, and Sept. 22-24. The cost for the Comprehensive Teacher Training Workshop is $4,750.
