While bourbonism continues to gain excitement and support throughout the city and state, another important aspect of that is getting its due: responsibility. A coalition of public, private and nonprofit entities — led by the Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA) — has formed to help offer Louisvillians discounts on safe rides home this holiday season.

At a press conference held Thursday morning at the LMPD Headquarters, members of the KDA, Kentucky Guild of Brewers, Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Kentucky and others gathered to announce the “This one’s on us” campaign that will offer $20 discounts from Lyft and CityScoot starting Friday, Dec. 15.

By using the code SAFERIDEKY17 in either app, anyone needing a ride home from a bar, holiday party or ugly Christmas sweater pub crawl will receive $10 off a ride out and $10 off a ride home from Lyft, and/or $20 off a ride home from CityScoot through Jan. 1, while supplies last.

The coalition has made at least $10,000 worth of rides available throughout Kentucky.

“We like to say bourbon brings people together, and the holidays are a festive time to gather with family and friends,” said KDA President Eric Gregory in a press release. “We’re proud to unite with our beer and wholesale partners in helping to make sure those celebrations are safe and responsible.”

Along with beer, bourbon and wine representatives, several local politicians and members of the LMPD were in attendance to support the Safe Ride Kentucky initiative.

Insider will have more on the newly revamped CityScoot company this afternoon.
