Update appended at 2:30 p.m.

Guntown Mountain? No. Funtown Mountain.

WHY Louisville’s Will Russell continues to bring the awesome.

Russell always said he wanted to own a Roadside Attraction. That dream came true when both WHY Louisville stores became accredited by Roadside America, but now he’s going big time.

Last month, Insider Louisville got to visit his Funhouse — the Lebowski Festival HQ and Russell’s ad hoc pop culture museum — and was let in on a not-so-secret secret.

Now Russell has spilled (some of) the beans. He announced on Facebook and Roadside America this weekend that soon he will be the owner of the historic Guntown Mountain in Cave City, Ky.

Guntown Mountain is a replica of an Old West town complete with saloons and gunfights. On site there is a Haunted Hotel, a skylift, black light mini-golf, and a country store.

Funtown Mountain will preserve the best of Guntown Mountain, add new attractions, and be a celebration of Kentucky art and culture.

This past weekend, Russell and some key players in planning for the park — including artist Kathleen Lolley — traveled to Cave City once again to do an informal survey of the site. Russell says he’s been there around three or four times in the past 30 days.

More formal details will be coming soon. In the meantime, make sure to “like” their Facebook page. A testament to Russell’s popularity, it has been up for less than one hour and already has around 130 likes.

Because the purchase of Guntown Mountain has not been finalized, Will Russell called IL this afternoon to indicate he has temporarily taken down the aforementioned Facebook page at the urging of his real estate agent. Russell hopes to share more details soon… we’ll let you know as we know more.
