open coffeeOn Monday, May 23, Open Coffee will hear from the founder and CEO of WaterStep, Mark Hogg.

WaterStep is a nonprofit that works to save lives around the world with safe water. Since its humble beginnings in 1995 as a small mission-based group with one employee, Hogg has led the organization through transitions and growth, resulting in WaterStep becoming a major player in the international fight against waterborne disease.

Under Hogg’s leadership, WaterStep has successfully implemented safe-water projects in more than 30 countries and improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of people around the world.

Hogg is an experienced motivational speaker, drawing on his background as an ordained minister and over 30 years of international travel. His extensive time in the field has uniquely positioned him to be an inspirational advocate for global water, sanitation, and health and hygiene issues, as well as how “the power of one” can make a difference in the world.

Hogg’s personal honors include receiving the Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Ernst & Young and receiving the 2013 Kentucky Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Muhammad Ali Center.

Hogg has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Belmont University in Nashville, and a master’s in divinity from the Southern Seminary program in Louisville. He also founded and owned Hogg Contracting remodeling company from 1986 to 1991.

Hogg lives in Louisville, where he enjoys spending time with the three women in his life: his wife, Marcia, his daughter, Ariquonicaa, and his granddaughter, Isabella. Savored luxuries in life include carpentry, walks with Jaz (his Tree Walker Coonhound) and a good book.
