Basketball season starts at Fourth Street Live! That’s right, fans who want to see Coach Chris Mack’s first U of L Cardinal squad in its public debut should come downtown on Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m.

Fans who want to claim seats or standing room spots on the second floor will be allowed in at 6:00 p.m.

The free event is “Louisville Live” and takes place on a portable court that will be set up in the center of the downtown entertainment venue, where fans can cheer them on from a variety of vantage points. Interested parties may reserve indoor and outdoor seating by calling 502-417-7640 or 502-568-3457.

Mack comes to the Cardinals after nine seasons at Xavier, where his teams went 215-97 and reached eight NCAA Tournaments in nine years. His first Cardinal contingent is expected to be led by a strong corps of returning players, including V.J. King, Ryan McMahon, Jordan Nwora, Darius Perry and Malik Williams, along with newcomers Christen Cunningham and Steven Enoch.

The Cards’ first game is Oct. 28 at the KFC Yum! Center against Bellarmine.

Of course, Cardinal football fans know that the Coach Bobby Petrino Show originates from the Sports and Social Club inside Fourth Street Live!  most Thursdays during the season, including Sept. 27. One exception is a Wednesday broadcast on Oct. 3.

The Petrino Show, with host Jody Demling, is heard locally on 790 AM WKRD and on the U of L Radio Network.

Fans can reserve a seat for any of the live shows by calling (502) 568-1400.

Tourist for a day

Become a tourist for the day at Fourth Street Live! on Sept. 27 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Spend your lunch hour sampling delicious bites from local restaurants and checking out items from local specialty stores while learning about the area’s finest attractions, all in one place.

Louisville Tourism presents the Lunchtime Live! Hospitality Showcase, featuring more than 30 local restaurants, attractions and shops showcasing their wares in a festive atmosphere, with music from DJ Jaybird. Each attraction will set up along the sidewalks of Fourth Street Live!, and there will be great prizes and giveaways.

The event is free to attend, and visitors can combine their “tourism” day with a meal at one of Fourth Street Live’s many lunch options.

It wouldn’t be October in Louisville without Strassenfest at Fourth Street Live!

It’s a two-day family-friendly event featuring all things German, reflecting the area’s rich history and the influence of German immigrants, the first of which arrived in 1787.

German food and activities, and of course, beer, are the featured attractions Oct. 5 and 6.

First up, Mayor Greg Fischer taps Gordon Bierch’s Festbier at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, with live music from favorites Rheingold Band and Prost! Those two popular bands come back on Saturday, and are joined by the March Madness Marching Band, Cirque Louis and the Zinzinnati Bierband.

Germany’s #1 Food Truck will be serving up donor kebabs, bratwurst and other German culinary favorites. Several local breweries will be represented, including Holsapple, Mile Wide, Goodwood, West Sixth, Falls City and the Street’s own resident brewery, Gordon Biersch.

True Strassenfest fans will opt for $25 VIP tickets, which include a souvenir beer mug, three drink tickets, bottled water and a pretzel necklace. Those tickets are available exclusively at
