As a non-profit media organization, Insider Louisville is dedicated to providing non-biased information for the public. In an up and coming city like Louisville, home of the Kentucky Derby and Muhammad Ali, people need to be able to access viable information with trusted sources. This is Insider Louisville’s mission, unbiased purposeful news for the people. The website is centered around five coverage areas that include the following: culture, economy, education, government, and health. In addition to those categories, there’s also a “Voices” page, where readers can submit their own commentary and material, and an “Amplify” page which focuses on the unsung local heroes of Louisville. They also have a free newsletter and a community page.
In today’s society, one of the most critical aspects of a news company is accessibility. Insider Louisville already capitalized on the online-news niche, but they knew they had to expand in order to keep up with the constant flow of information supplied by social media and mobile apps. People spend hours every day staring at their phone and tablet, constantly searching and sharing material. For this reason, Insider Louisville decided to release their own mobile app.
Insider Louisville used MoDuet to build their application and ensure it had the full functionality desired. One of the benefits of their app is that it is in real-time, so everything from their website is automatically loaded to the app without any added effort. It’s free, easy to navigate, and gives immediate access.
Within the app users are able to donate to the organization with ease by simply pressing the menu button (signified by three lines at the top left corner of the screen) and clicking on the “Donate” button. Readers can also signup for Insider Louisville’s newsletter and set up push notifications. In the future, users will be able to customize the notification settings to only get alerted for the specific topics and categories they want. Being able to notify readers is an amazing capability that improves site/app traffic and engages the audience. People are always rushing trying to keep up with busy schedules, which is why news, whether it is on TV, the internet or on the phone, is not typically something for which people carve out time. The notifications not only reminds the user to stay updated with current affairs, it also makes it easy to stay updated without taking much time out of their day. Another future enhancement will include in-app messaging to increase interaction between users, Insider Louisville and the content.
The application maintains the color scheme and simplicity from the main site as well. Immediately, the user sees the latest and sponsored posts on their screen after clicking through the introduction pages. To access all other categories, just click on the menu button and all the tabs are there.
MoDuet is proud to support Insider Louisville as they continue to provide easy-to-access trusted information to the citizens of Louisville.
