Different studies report different statistics on shopping local, but they all have one thing in common: they show that shopping local has a much, much greater positive economic impact on the community than shopping at a national retail store. A much greater percentage of money that you spend in a local, independent store stays right here in Louisville than the money you spend at a big box or chain.

screen-shot-2016-11-28-at-12-43-10-pmThe Louisville Independence Business Alliance has been asserting this since it was founded more than 10 years ago. And for the past nine holiday seasons, it’s been offering a holiday incentive to keep your money close to home.

From now through Jan. 3, 2017, shop at any of the 870 LIBA member-owned businesses and save your receipt. Then present your receipts at a local sponsor — any Feeders Supply or Heine Bros. Coffee site — or online. Each receipt will equal one entry in a drawing for a $1,000 LIBA gift certificate to spend at a LIBA-member business of your choice. Another way to enter the contest is to purchase LIBA’s new eGift Card, good at over 50 LIBA member businesses.

“Buying from locally owned independents is a gift to the community because of the financial ramifications and the well-being of the businesses that make our town unique,” said Jennifer Rubenstein, director of LIBA, in a press release.
The hoLOUdays contest winner will be drawn live on Jan. 6, 2017 at 12 p.m. on WAVE Country.
