We always forget you can cross the river and legally smoke a cigar inside like civilized person.

To that point, the Match Lounge will host a whiskey tasting and cigar pairing event Fri. Dec. 21. with a former Maker’s Mark Distiller, part of the Match Lounge grand opening.

The Match Lounge is a speak-easy-style boutique bourbon bar and lounge adjacent to Riverside Cigar Shop at Market and Spring streets in downtown Jeffersonville.

Owned by Jeff and Sara Mouttet and partner Mark Reynolds, Match has specialty, artisan, and local spirits, beer, and wine, according to a news release.

Match’s Whiskey and Cigar Event will feature a scotch, bourbon and whiskey flight, paired with a signature Oliva Serie V Melanio Cigar.

The event is sponsored by WhistlePig Master Distiller Dave Pickerell and Oliva Cigars, and is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to a news release.

Neighboring Riverside Cigar Shop and Lounge will hold a simultaneous launch event with Oliva Cigars from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to the release.

WhistlePig’s Master Distiller, Dave Pickerell, who spent 14 years as Maker’s Mark Master Distiller, will be on hand with Ian Hummel, of Oliva Cigars, for  one-on-one question and answer session, according to the release.

WhistlePig makes a limited production, 100-proof Straight Rye Whiskey at the WhistlePig Farm Distillery in Shoreham, Vt., according the distillery website.

The event is limited to 30 people with tickets being sold for $30 per person.
