I was born and raised in Richmond, Ky., and grew up in St. Paul AME Church. Our Young Peoples Department took frequent trips to Louisville for meetings and workshops and we always looked forward to staying in the Galt House and visiting Quinn Chapel.

I remember the very long aisles and imagined getting married there. As an undergrad at the University of Louisville, I joined Quinn and worked part time all through college in the office with Hughlyne Wilson (a retired teacher and JCPS administrator).

I was there when our Pastor George Moore and trustees decided to move to 19th and Ali. I was disappointed they chose not to invest in the historic property. I am glad Haven Harrington has been focused on this and it’s actually happening!

Another memory: Dr. Ricky Jones standing in the pews as part of the protest when Adrian Reynolds was killed in police custody.
